{Monday Inspiration} One Plastic Beach

I came across this video on the weekend and have watched it several times since. I admire the ability of artists to present issues in a gentle and beautiful way. 

Richard Lang and Judith Selby Lang have been collecting plastic debris off one beach in Northern California for over ten years. Each piece of plastic Richard and Judith pick up comes back to their house, where it gets cleaned, categorized and stored before being used for their art. The couple make sculptures, prints, jewelry and installations with the plastic they find washed up, raising a deeper concern with the problem of plastic pollution in our seas.

Hello and welcome to a new week here on PEK!

Whenever I am in need of inspiration, art always does the trick for me. Visiting an art exhibition or even browsing artists’ work online never fails to leave me feeling uplifted and with a fresher view on life. Growing up our house was filled with artworks and I can still remember the stories I imagined about the characters in some of those works.

Now that I have a growing little soul at home I still like to surround ourselves with the work of artists that inspire me. And that is what brings me to one of my latest discoveries: Apak Studio.

Husband and wife Aaron and Ayumi Piland are the duo behind the magical world of Apak Studio. They create wonderfully magical art “featuring the utopian lives and adventures of curious little beings living in lush fantastic environments surrounded by friendly little animals”. And I love it!! I love the idea of art as a platform to inspire future generations to cherish this earth we live on, as well as the fact that they do it with such joy and whimsy.

Recycled Animal Friends

In their own words, re:Something is an innovative design company devoted to creating a sustainable consumer culture by developing high quality designs from recycled materials. This animal collection was handcrafted from recycled wooden road sign bars. Brilliant!

I have a soft spot for wooden animals, as you may have already noticed, so I am totally oohing and aaahing over this collection. These little guys from the animal kingdom are welcomed at my place any day!
