Here is a fun little project we did over the weekend in preparation for Easter.
What we used:
- Hard boiled eggs (we used brown eggs but the colours would look more vibrant if white eggs where used)
- Food colouring (An alternative would be to make your own dyes using different foods. Some ideas here.)
- Water
- Vinegar
- Old stocking
- Crayons
- Leaves
Step by step:
{1} Cool the eggs after boiling
{2} Prepare the Dyes (1 cup of warm water + 1 teaspoon of vinegar + colouring)
{3} Mask some areas of the egg by either drawing on them with crayons or placing a leave on the egg surface (using a bit of water will help the leaf stick to the egg)
{4} Submerge the eggs in the chosen dye (the leaf covered egg will need to be wrapped with a piece of stocking and tied first, to keep the leaf in place).
{5} Leave the eggs in the dye bath for a few minutes. The longer they stay submerged the deeper the colour will get.
{6} Remove eggs from the dye and pat dry.
{7} The eggs can then be partially submerged in a new colour to create some nice effects.
